Do you need a website?

Most businesses, no matter how small, need their place on the web.

Apart from the obvious promotion of your business, websites are usually the first impression most people will have of your business.

Nowadays people will search the internet first before making any decision about buying a product or using a service.

A simple website is an inexpensive and extremely successful way to promote your business. It is also a much cheaper than printed advertising. However a well placed ad, or letterbox drop are many times more effective when backed up by an informative website.

A website provides a visitor with :

• Contact information
  • How and where to find you
  • Trading hours etc
• Product information
  • Attractively presented stock
  • Availability
  • Cost
  • Whether or not your products are available online or in your shop.
• Service information
  • What services you provide and why your service is better than the rest.
• Your geographical service area
• Pricing

A website can also be useful in reverse.

Are you are lucky enough to have a small business that has adequate custom, but you find yourself having to answer frequent, time consuming, questions?
Having the information online means you can direct callers to your website and not have to spend so much time chatting.

What is needed for a website?

A domain name - www.yourbusiness.com.au - Cost $70 for 2 years

Hosting - Where your website will sit in cyberspace - Cost $90 per year

The Website - Cost between $500 and $1,000 depending on the type of site and amount of content.

Getting Started - I will meet with you to discuss your requirements.

What the site is for? This of course will dictate the layout, number of pages, design and colour scheme.
For SEO purposes (see below) I will need to know the words and phrases for which you want your site to be found (in an internet search). These will include words relevant to your site content as well as the areas from which you draw your business ie: Wollondilly, Sydney, NSW, Australia or worldwide.

You also need to provide: the content (wording) for your site, logo, product photos and/or graphics. I can help you with photos and graphics if required.
Look at plenty of websites for businesses similar to your's to get an idea of the type of content you need, and how you would like it presented. Provide me with links to your preferred sites so we can discuss them.

Things to think about:

• Will your site need to be regularly updated with new or changing product content?
• Do you wish to make the changes yourself?
  

NB: If you require an online store, web design costs will be higher.

Once your site is online, how will people find it?

It is a major part of my job, as your website designer, to do the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) on your site.
It is an integral part of the site design and will be part of our discussions.
You can expect your site to be found for key words and phrases in a reasonable time. (This is dependant on the business type and competition.)

	Jane Knyvett Sculptor ACT based Sculpture in Bronze and Glass Small form and portraiture	Blue themed website that displays Jane's sculptural works.
	Oz Waterbuoy Keep your valuables afloat with Oz Waterbuoy Floating Key ring	This site exhibits the qualities of a new product for the Australian marine market. It includes an Australian map which links to the suppliers of the product in each State.
	Southern Cross Horse Transport Safe, Reliable Horse Transport Across Australia	This business requires the website to rank well so it is found by a maximum of clients from across Australia. Newsletter signup and Twitter integration
	Twins Performance Horses Australian Warmblood Horses Bred and Schooled for Showjumping and Eventing	Displays the breeding, training, campaigning and selling of performance horses. Pages present individual horses which are for sale. Photo gallery of the girl's previous events. Archive of news stories.
	Winna Parker Pty Ltd Construction, Fitout and Project Management Canberra Melbourne Sydney	Elegant and interesting presentation of recent work performed by Winna Parker, The site can be viewed across all platforms of internet. Specific use of a photo gallery for the home page and an accordion gallery for the headers through the rest of the site.
